Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
When I accepted the position that brought me to Riley County, my boss asked me if I would stay at least two years? The biggest reservation he and other members of senior management had with hiring me at the time was me being able to adjust to living in a small midwestern community. They said “you have worked in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix areas. How are you going to adjust?” My reply was that I currently had a two-year-old daughter and planned to have another child and the Midwest in general and Manhattan, Riley County in particular, appeared to be a great place.
That was just about 22 years ago. Since then our eldest daughter, Tori, has graduated from Manhattan High and Kansas State University and is currently in her second year of veterinary school at KSU. Our younger daughter, Jodi, graduated from Manhattan High this past year. My wife, Karin, has enjoyed working as a substitute teacher, consultant, and the last 11 years for Varney and Associates. She has volunteered 100s of hours for numerous local organizations.
I retired in June 2019, as the Vice President of Logistics for Foot Locker, after 21 years of service. Over the years, I served the community in several capacities, including Mayor and City Commissioner of Manhattan, Chairman of the Riley County Law Board, BSA Coronado Council Board, Junction City Chamber of Commerce Board, KSU Graduate Studies Advisory Council for the College of Business, Sunset Zoo Trust Board, KSU Adjunct Professor, College of Business, and others. We have truly enjoyed living here and becoming part of this great community.
